Wondering how to pick the perfect suit for your wedding?
Styling the groom and groomsmen for a wedding today is as much about the aesthetics of the day as it is about the form and function of the suit after the wedding. This is not your high school prom! We are going to help you find the perfect suit for your wedding that will make you look and feel great, and that will give you years of use for other occasions in your life too!
What is today’s modern look for suits?
When people think of wedding attire for the guys, they tend to think of tuxedos. While there will always be a place for a beautifully tailored tuxedo, most modern weddings are not black-tie affairs. Grooms today are looking for a suit that will go the distance from the wedding day and won’t be something they wear only once.
With the right suit, you can wear it for multiple occasions- from an anniversary dinner out to a presentation in the boardroom- just by adding in different accessories like ties and pocket squares.

What colors are trending?
The big 5 are always classic and will never go out of style. They come in every fit, every size, and no one will laugh at your powder blue suits in 20 years.
Ask the following questions when choosing a suit color:
- What color do you like?
- What time of year are you getting married and in what location?
- What colors are the bridesmaids wearing?
While all of these should be taken into consideration, your suits don’t have to be strictly matchy-matchy with the bridesmaids. After all, only a few photos will be taken with them! It’s more important that you like the color and that it fits the theme and location of a wedding. For example- a classic black suit is beautiful at a cathedral wedding but would look out of place during a hot and sunny beach wedding.
Do I have to wear a vest?
Our suits come as sets, including the jacket, a matching vest, and pants. You do not have to wear each piece, but it’s nice to own each one so you can get different looks out of the suit. You don’t even have to have all the groomsmen wear the same pieces. We love the eclectic look that shows off the personality of each groomsman. Have them wear the vest (or not) and mix it up with bowties and ties that are complementary to the wedding colors.
What color shirt should go under the jacket?
90% of the time, we recommend a white shirt. It’s crisp, it’s clean and classic and it looks great on everyone and photographs well. Also, they don’t compete with the bride’s dress! Should she choose to wear a champagne or ivory dress you don’t have to worry about getting the right ivory shirt that is the same tone so it doesn’t look dingy.
We also offer ivory shirts for weddings that have a very distinctive rustic or outdoor look to them and black shirts for looks that are very sharp, tailored or defined.
Modern day suit must-haves
- Modern fit pants with a slim leg should touch the top of the shoe with no break
- A quarter to a half-inch of the shirt cuff should show under the jacket
- Your back end should be covered three-quarters of the way
- No baggy thighs! Suits should fit well and not bag anywhere
- Make sure the shoes of all the groomsmen are the same shade (brown or black)
It’s so easy to find the right suit for your wedding from home! With our easy process, we can help get you into a suit that is a great fit and a great look for your wedding- and beyond.
